Meet MKDSrust

MKDSrust turns a cartridge owner's own MKDS game dump into a native program and a Rust source workspace. It exists to preserve playability, study behavior and make room for modding. The tools translate locally; the game is not supplied.

A decompilation tries to turn machine instructions back into understandable source. Static recompilation translates those instructions before you play, then compiles them for your computer. MKDSrust starts with a faithful translation and progressively makes it more readable. It is still a work in progress.

Your copy stays yours

You must own the game and make your own lawful dump. The project supplies tools and original research metadata, with no Nintendo code, ROM or game assets. Generated source, extracted files and built bundles are personal-use outputs and must not be redistributed. This is the project's distribution boundary, not a blanket legal ruling for every jurisdiction. MKDSrust is independent of Nintendo. The reviewed checkout has no top-level license declaration; do not infer redistribution rights for its tools.
